The lowest-lying town in Switzerland is Ascona. It is situated on the northern shore of Lago Maggiore, commonly known as Lake Langen, at an elevation of 196 meters above sea level. Above Ascona is the Monte Verità, often known as the Mountain of Truth. Here, in the beginning of the 20th century, a colony of adherents of unconventional ideas was founded. Celebrities from all around the world visited the colony. Today’s alternative colony and its founders’ histories are on display in a museum on the mountain, where seminars are held by the universities of Lucerne and Zurich.
